Our Mission: To provide excellent educational experiences to the students attending the Bayport – Blue Point Union Free School District
BBP SEED funded the Cultural Breakfast and Spanish Language Book Exchange on December 11th, 2015 at Academy Street Elementary School. This event encompassed both senior Spanish students from BBP High School , as well as fifth graders from Academy Street Elementary School. Over one hundred BBP students participated in the event. The High School students wrote personalized books for the 5th graders in Spanish. After meeting the High School students who wrote their books, the elementary students learned how to order various Spanish refreshments that were being served. The students enjoyed empanadas, fruit and specialty juices.
Sally Miller, a Spanish teacher in the district, said “I have to say that the High School students really carried the event. The books they made were truly spectacular, showing a lot of effort on their part. When they met the 5th graders, they were very welcoming and engaging, easing the anxiety of the younger students. The 5th graders were completely engaged and attentive during the mini-lesson and subsequent vocabulary game that closed the event.”
Many thanks to all involved, including Academy Street for hosting the event, Kerri McGuire and Sally Miller for reaching out to SEED for sponsorship.
